Home Miniature house Gumnut Fair returns this weekend to May Gibbs’ Nutcote Cottage in Neutral Bay.

Gumnut Fair returns this weekend to May Gibbs’ Nutcote Cottage in Neutral Bay.

The gift shop will offer early Christmas shopping, Ms Sadler said, with May Gibb cards, Christmas decorations and books and Australia-themed gifts for sale.

“My favorite part of the fair this year will be seeing the garden filled with fans of May’s work and children dressed up as their favorite May Gibbs characters,” she said.

“Fundraising was a big part of saving Nutcote, and the fair was a way to celebrate saving the property while opening the historic home to visitors.”

The Nutcote Tea Rooms will be open on Sundays.

Cecilia May Gibbs (1877-1969) is best known for her iconic children’s story, The Complete Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, featuring two gumnut babies and their escape from the big bad Banksia.

“May’s famous characters, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, are gumnut babies. The fair is therefore named after these magical fairy creatures inspired by the Australian bush.”

‘Nutcote is a hidden gem on Sydney’s foreshore,’ said Ms Sadler, ‘If you’ve never been, the open day is your chance to experience the world of May Gibbs and everything you buy this day allows us to remain open to the public.”

Fundraising raffle prizes include Gumnut baby costumes, May Gibbs 2023 calendars, notepads, bookmarks, puzzles, books and wall decals.

Nutcote was one of the first historic houses to be awarded a NSW Heritage ‘Blue Plaque’ in 2022.

There will also be vouchers for the Ensemble theatre, picnic baskets, Nutcote Gingerbread house and gummi baby cake, donated by These were donated by local businesses.
