Results, live updates and match scores

AEW might just be right signed the hottest and most elusive free agent in the industry in CM Punk, but SummerSlam is likely to decline as the biggest wrestling event of 2021. With no social distancing provisions to hamper the number of live viewers, more than 40,000 fans are expected in the live Las Vegas crowd. The star of the show is John Cena, who will challenge “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship.

This is one of the many big fights in the series. Edge will take on Seth Rollins in what is sure to be awesome, and Bobby Lashley will defend his WWE Championship against a returning Goldberg. Nikki ASH will be looking to defend her Raw Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair, and Sasha Banks’ clash with SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair is on schedule.

Come back to this page when the main show starts to 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET as I will update with the results and live analysis.

Alexa Bliss beats Eva Marie

Sigh. This one is coming up, hope it’s over soon.

It starts with grappling and the crowd chants “We want Wyatt!” Eva Marie then grabs Alexa Bliss’ doll Lily, slaps her and then hits Bliss with it. Bliss got angry with Marie with a botched attack. Doudrop tells Eva Marie that she believes in herself, then Bliss hits Marie with a DDT and pins her.

Randy Orton and Riddle win Raw Tag titles

We have new team champions. Randy Orton and Riddle beat AJ Styles and Omos in the SummerSlam opener, Orton hitting an RKO on AJ Styles to get the pin.

It was a very basic match, with AJ working most of the time with Riddle and Orton and Omos occasionally stepping in to play the big, dominant man. Omos will eventually flatten Riddle with a ringside chokeslam, but he couldn’t stop AJ from eating an RKO. Orton was positioned as the star of the match, getting the big hot tag and coming to Riddle’s rescue for the victory.

The match was too short, as it ended just as he was stepping up a gear. Hopefully that means we’ll get a more in-depth match on the next pay-as-you-go. Either way, we had a happy ending for the first game on the map. The crowd was delighted to see Orton and Riddle as the new tag team champions.

Rating: 3 stars.
