Sabers fans want those RJ banners and it looks like Wegmans got them

It was literally a perfect night for Buffalo Sabers fans on Friday.

The team honored legendary play-by-play man, Rick Jeanneret with a 20-minute ceremony before the Sabers game against the Nashville Predators at KeyBank Center and there wasn’t a single dry eye in the sold out arena.

RJ threw a first class ceremony and the festivities continued all night and the Sabers players did their job beating the Predators 4-3. Buffalo was the better team throughout the game, especially in the first and third periods.

The Sabers also raised a banner to the rafter for RJ and it looked spectacular. It showed his career from 1971 to 2022 and magnificent blue and gold colors.

Sabers fans clearly wanted one of their collectors for themselves and many people on Twitter were saying Saturday that Wegmans had them. For quite cheap too.

I don’t know how many would be left, but it’s best to buy one now if you see them at your nearest Wegmans.

RJ is literally the main reason the people of Buffalo love hockey as much as they do. Many of us have tried to imitate his calls when we were playing street or parking lot hockey, ice hockey or pond hockey. I wanted to be a goalkeeper because of calls from Dominik Hasek and RJ.

I hope RJ knows how many lives he touched. He’s one of the best men, not just in hockey, but in any sport in North America.

We will miss you RJ.
