Subaru of America names first African-American woman to leadership team


Subaru of America has said it has appointed its first African-American wife to a managerial position. Renee Rhem has been appointed Vice President of Customer Defense for the Camden-based company and a member of the Subaru leadership team, effective November 1.

In his new role, Rhem will oversee the Subaru customer experience across all channels, ensuring that the promise of Subaru love is present in all interactions with Subaru customers.

“Since joining our team in 2020, Renee has gone above and beyond to ensure that Subaru Love Promise customer engagement shines in all interactions with our valued owners,” said Thomas Doll, CEO and President of Subaru of America, in a prepared press release. “We are proud to welcome Renee to the Subaru leadership team and are confident that she will deliver solid results that will keep Subaru among the best in its class for our customers’ experience with our brand.

Rhem joined Subaru in 2020. Previously, she held positions in operations, sales support and customer service including at Prudential Financial, Independence Blue Cross and Bank of America.

Rhem holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Spelman College in Atlanta and is a board member of Las Americas ASPIRA Academy (Delaware Charter), as well as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and the National Alumnae. Association of Spelman. University. Rhem lives in Delaware with her husband and two sons.
